We've opened registration for the 5th edition of Challenge Accepted – Hackathon

IT enthusiasts across the country are invited to build apps for emergency situations in Romania and around the world

“A line of code can make the world a better place” again this year, at the 5th edition of the Challenge Accepted Hackathon organized by Informal School of IT.

The coding marathon takes place between June 7 and 9, at the Bucharest LakeView Building, and is open to the general public. For 48 hours, the participants involved will find innovative tech solutions for pressing problems in the medical services & pharma field and for managing emergency situations in Romania and around the world. Earthquakes, fires, epidemics, technological, radiological and biological accidents, or other types of natural and man-made disasters, are subjects brought to the attention of IT specialists, as well as technology enthusiasts just starting out in their careers. At the end of the event, the participants from 25 teams will be the creators of products that change the dynamics of society through prototypes of modern apps with a positive impact on people's lives.

In just 48 hours, ideas will become MVPs

Just as last year, at the 4th edition of Challenge Accepted – Hackathon, no fewer than 80 volunteer IT professionals from all over Romania, as well as from the Netherlands, Spain and Nigeria, built prototypes of innovative apps aimed at improving people's quality of life, and in this edition too, projects will go, in just 48 hours, from idea stage to MVP. In 2018, participants in the competition organized by Informal School of IT took on challenges launched by institutions such as: MagicCamp, the RoNeuro Institute – Research and Diagnostic Center for Neurological Diseases, Transylvania College, Cluj-Napoca City Hall, and many others. Likewise this year, NGOs, institutions and professional associations from the medical services & pharma field and from emergency situation management will present challenges.

Results of Challenge Accepted – Hackathon 2018

“A line of code can make the world a better place for 50 million people, whose lives it can change today; the same goes for the more than 135 million people around the world, in 2050. The software we built at Challenge Accepted – Hackathon for the RoNeuro Institute's device will help with the early diagnosis of degenerative neurological diseases, as much as 8-10 years before diagnosis by current methods, thereby enabling preventive treatment” – Alin Deac, IT specialist & one of the mentors of the 1st place team at Challenge Accepted 2018.

Problems will become challenges again this year

In this edition, NGOs, public institutions and professional associations from the medical services & pharma field and from emergency situation management are invited to submit, by June 1, the pressing problems they face in their work that can be solved with the help of technology. The problems will become “challenges” in the Challenge Accepted – Hackathon competition.
