"On Tuesday I had my first job interview. By Thursday I was already working as a Java Developer"
Ever since he was a little kid, Marius had a passion for technical things. When asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?", he'd answer "architect". From architecture, he ended up in agriculture and, recently, at 29 years old, in IT. He says that nowadays everything is programming, and the start of a career in IT can only be fascinating. And because nothing happens by chance, the joy of reinventing himself hides a story.
The story of Marius Miclean, Informal School of IT graduate, today a Java Developer:
From agriculture to IT
I'm someone who loves extremes!
1. Why IT?
Until not long ago I worked in agriculture, as a territorial consultant for various companies. Talking with a lot of farmers about their companies and their management systems, most of them lacking, gave me the idea to develop software that could help them.
2. Tell us about your academic path.
I attended a science-track high school, Math-Informatics Intensive Physics. Then I specialized in Horticulture, attending a relevant faculty, and went on to a master's degree in Environmental Protection.
I wish I'd learned more computer science during traditional school, but as it turned out, in October 2016 I found my way to the Informal School of IT. I chose the Java Development programming program!
Because Java does everything, Java is pretty much everywhere.
3. What was it like learning Java programming?
Hard, at first. But with a lot, a lot of work and time set aside for studying, I got the hang of it and the results weren't long in coming.
4. (from the course sessions) What do you especially remember about…
… a classmate who wouldn't treat us because he finished with the top grade. Just kidding :).
The course sessions were very packed. You couldn't do anything but focus as hard as you could, since there was still a lot of material in a short amount of time. But it was worth it. Every second of it.

5. What was the job interview like?
It was very interesting! It was the first interview I got to, and everything moved very, very fast. I had the job interview on a Tuesday, and by Thursday of the same week, I'd already started working.
A piece of advice for Informal School of IT students:
- What's very important for the job interview is to show that you're passionate about IT. Just as important is the final project at the Informal School of IT, which helped me tremendously.
6. What "flavor" does starting a career in IT have right now?
Even though I'm "very much at the start," it's F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.
7. The strongest motivation for learning is …
Growth.
8. My biggest fear was…
That I wouldn't be capable of understanding Java.
9. Let's imagine we're in 2025. Where do you see yourself, professionally speaking?
Running my own IT company. Honestly, and with all modesty, I hope it happens a lot sooner than that.
10. The motto you live by / a thought for those reading this interview:
"Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood" – Marie Curie
